An effective way to secure the ends of synthetic fiber ropes is to wrap them around a fixed pulley multiple times to reduce the tension. Although based on Euler’s belt theory, it is difficult to directly visualize the continuous decay of tension. Therefore, in this paper, we used Brillouin optical correlationdomain eflectometry (BOCDR) to directly measure the tension distribution of an optical fiber wrapped around a circular pulley. As a result, we succeeded in measuring the tension distribution of an optical fiber wrapped around a circular pulley. We also compared the deviation between these measurement results and Euler’s belt theory. This suggests that Euler’s belt theory applies to the circular pulley used in this paper.
